Scene Discussion
I played and older version of Lili in the scene. I decided to have my character be somewhat dependent on her son, Guy, because her husband died a while ago. Although, I wanted her to show some independence by offering to pay for the coffee because in most cases that I have seen, the family members don't want one another paying for something for them. I also showed this by having Guy mention at the end that she needed to get to work. I thought it would be a good idea for her to move to America with her son for college so it would show how hard her and her son are working to get a better life. I wanted my character to tie into Zoni's character as more than just a possible love interest, so I mentioned how my cousin would listen to the radio station that Zoni worked for to make a vague connection between Zoni's character and mine through the love interest his character had in the first story. I knew that if I was playing Lili I would want to be single. I thought that this was a good choice because I figured it would take a very long time to get over the death of your husband, so I wanted to make sure the audience knew who she was and that she was single. I also decided to make her very cheerful and welcoming because from what I have observed, many people who have a lot of sadness at one point in their life tent to either be angry and hateful or gracious and happy. I thought that making her kind and delightful would make her more relatable for the audience.
